The original Harvey kids grew up in Monroe, Louisiana. Right across the Ouachita River from Monroe lies West Monroe, a city culturally and politically distinct from its neighbor to the east. Anyone from Monroe knows that an intense rivalry exists between the so-called "Twin Cities." Since we grew up in Monroe, we decided to stoke the fire a bit and create a shirt for all of our friends in Monroe or with Monroe roots. And as Monroe native and St. Frederick graduate Hillary Norris often says, "everyone can relate everything back to Monroe."
The shirt is all in fun, and we Harveys still have lots of love for West Monroe. West Monroe is home to Mojo Ware, one the nation's best and most unique apparel designers. West Monroe is the city where the original Harvey kids went to elementary school (St. Paschal in the house!). And we also many a happy summer afternoon exploring the trails of Kiroli Park.
"Monroe" is printed on a heather lake blue 50% cotton, 50% polyester American Apparel tee shirt with orange and yellow inks. "Monroe" was created by Josh Harvey and is modeled by Louisiana State University students Paul Hewitt, James Knobloch and Nicole Staudenmaier. There is also a photo of Paul modeling the t-shirt during the 2009 Storyville Fashion Show in Baton Rouge (Paul is an actual Monroe native). This photo was taken by Liz Condo of The Advocate. Last but not least, there is a photo of Southern University of New Orleans student Shaun Grant modeling "Monroe" during the 2009 Fashion in the Park fashion show in New Orleans. This photo was taken by Lawles Bourque.
The tee shirt is only available in the unisex cut.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS item?
Most Storyville tees are printed on 100% cotton, American Apparel brand tee shirts. These shirts are not pre-shrunk, so they will shrink if they are placed in the dryer. The unisex-cut American Apparel tee shirt is cut like a traditional men's tee shirt, although it runs about a half size smaller than Hane's, Fruit of the Loom or Gildan brand t-shirts. The female cut American Apparel tee shirt is significantly smaller than the unisex cut (a female XL tee is about the same size as a unisex medium tee). Compared to the unisex cut, the female cut tee also has smaller sleeves, is more narrow in the torso and is shorter in length.
If a product is printed on something other than a 100% cotton American Apparel t-shirt, it will be noted on the product page. Below are the sizing charts for the unisex cut and female-specific cut American Apparel crew t-shirts.
